Meme ganked from Marokura on LJ

Go here. Keep refreshing until you've collected five quotes that really resonate with you, then post them to your journal.

I picked a couple extra...

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.
Douglas Adams (1952 - 2001)

Among those whom I like or admire, I can find no common denominator, but among those whom I love, I can: all of them make me laugh.
W. H. Auden (1907 - 1973)

Writing is not necessarily something to be ashamed of, but do it in private and wash your hands afterwards.
Robert Heinlein (1907 - 1988)

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
Steven Weinberg (1933 - ), quoted in The New York Times, April 20, 1999

Nothing is so strong as gentleness. Nothing so gentle as real strength.
Saint Francis de Sales (1567 - 1622)

A new idea is delicate. It can be killed by a sneer or a yawn; it can be stabbed to death by a joke or worried to death by a frown on the right person's brow.
Charles Brower

And here are some classic favorites. ^_^

In those days spirits were brave, the stakes were high, men were real men, women were real women and small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri were real small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri.
Douglas Adams (1952 - 2001)

Everywhere I go I'm asked if I think the university stifles writers. My opinion is that they don't stifle enough of them. There's many a best-seller that could have been prevented by a good teacher.
Flannery O'Connor
US author (1925 - 1964)

God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of his own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players, to being involved in an obscure and complex version of poker in a pitch dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.
Terry Pratchett, "Good Omens"

Sometimes glass glitters more than diamonds because it has more to prove.
Terry Pratchett

Words are the litmus paper of the minds. If you find yourself in the power of someone who will use the word "commence" in cold blood, go somewhere else very quickly. But if they say "Enter", don't stop to pack.
Terry Pratchett, Small Gods

Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.
Douglas Adams (1952 - 2001), The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

3 books meme

Because I'm not tired yet.

* Three books that have marked your childhood...
- Prince Caspian by C.S. Lewis: This book was my favorite of the Narnia books. I loved that the heroes were back, loved seeing them dig through their castle and realize Narnia had never been a dream, loved the general idea. I need to read it again...
-The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams: Because. Yes. I bought it for my little cousin just so she could feel the power.
-Number the Stars by Lois Lowry - Because it haunted me.
And I know I can only have three, but Animorphs should feature because omg I devoured that series. And it influenced my perception. A lot. Did anyone else wonder who around them was really an alien? >.>;

* ... and your teenagehood :
-The Vampire Armand by Anne Rice- Because this book treated sexuality with a whole new level of... permissiveness. I remember being amazed at how the whipping scene was so... new to me. But, thanks to Anne Rice, even if she is a bitch, my (very important) teen years were void of any kind sexual prejudice.
-Dragons of Autumn Twilight by Weiss and Hickman - Because this was my first real fanatsy book. And I've ever had a love for the dark characters since I read it. Raistlin and Tas... best characters ever. "We’ll go out through the kitchen" is a line that still makes me feel all tingly.
-Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Because I learned that it doesn't always have to be so damned serious! <3 Marvin (and few other lines from books have been used as extensively as "42") And because I know where my towel is.

* Your three favourite books (only 3, even if it's hard!):
-Good Omens by Pratchett and Gaiman - Because two of my favorite authors came together to write something that, and I kind you not, could NEVER get old. I've read it three times since I first saw it last year (I know, I'm a n00b) and I just... love it. Oh Crowley. I cannot say enough about this book.
-A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle - I don't even know why I love this book so freakin much, except that it prolly has to do with Charles. And Mrs Whatsit, Who, and Which. Okay. I know why I love it, but cannot put it into words well. Have you read it? If not, shame on you! Go!
-Order of the Phoenix by Rowling - Best of the HP series. The DA plot is classic, and the intro of Luna... oh Luna. I can't say much, though, because some people might not have read it. So go read it (but start at the beginning, of course).

* Three books you could read again and again without growing weary of it :
Other than Good Omens?
-Nightwatch by Terry Pratchett - How do they rise? My favorite (subject to change) Discworld book. Everyone should read it. EVERYONE.
-Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones - It's hard to put into words. First, if you've only seen the movie, go get the book. The movie was cute and I appreciated it, but it was NOTHING like the book. My God, the very plot was different. One thing they did kinda get right was just how AWESOME Howl is. Lucky Sophie. ^^ But yes, awesome book.
-Magic's Pawn by Mercedes Lackey - Because I picked it up randomly on a shelf, read it in one night (I didn't sleep) and drove thirty minutes to get the second one as soon as school was out the next day. I read over 20 of her books in the next two months (the only reason I didn't read them all was the money thing) and have since read almost all of it. I love Lackey. A lot of her books could go here.
-Homeland by R.A. Salvatore - (Unapproved #4) Because Forgotten Realms cannot be forgotten (lol punny), even if I'm kinda over it now. Because Drizzt hadn't started to drive me crazy yet. This was back when he was both mortal and "human," unlike now. I don't like all-powerful characters much. I loved vulnerable!Drizz't. Oh Zaknefien...

* Three books you've read or are reading recently :
-American Gods by Neil Gaiman - Could have made it into either of the above categories. >.> Such a good book. SO. Good. Gaiman is a wonderful author.
-Making Money by Terry Pratchett - His newest book, and one that lived up to his name. I liked its prequel (Going Postal) a bit better, but that's just me. He, along with Gaiman and Lackey, is one of my favorite authors. Discworld is a classic.
-Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte - Because classics can be good. I'm reading it for class, have read it before, and actually like it this time around. It's really a good story.

* Three books that you'll read soon :
Do normal people plan this out?
-The Mill on the Floss - It's for class and I know nothing about it. /shrug
-The Wee Free Men by Pratchett - I hope. I'm looking at buying it right now on Amazon. >.> Someone take my credit card away. -_-;
- I am drawing a blank. There are so many books I want to read, but I don't know what I'll actually get to read yet. -_-; Probably something Gaiman or Pratchett.

* And one special, fetish book that you'd keep with yourself all the time :
>.> I got nothing
